What we don't know

Following our recent survey (the first for the park), we are only now beginning to have some knowledge of the rich bat fauna of Lobéké National Park (LNP).

The Bat Fauna

Until 2023, there had been no survey of bats in LNP. However, our initial survey would appear to support Herkt et al. (2016), who suggested that this area would have a highly diverse bat fauna. Of particular interest are the forest-dependent bats belonging to the families Rhinolophidae, Hipposideridae and Vespertilionidae.

Threats

We are currently researching the threats faced by bats in LNP. These threats are likely to include habitat loss and degradation, hunting and persecution.

Management Plan

A conservation management plan for bats in LNP is one of our current priorities.
